Salt Dough Gingerbread Man
We loved making these and it was an activity that we worked on over a couple of days. Great for fine motor practise: kneeding, cutting, threading, drawing. I lovely keepsake so we wrote their names and the year on the back. Memories...
Snowman Christmas Card
Lovely little card which involves lots of cutting , gluing and sticking - excellent for strengthening those little hands. Have fun!
Paper Strip Christmas Cards
Children can be as creative as they wish and great for developing those fine motor skills.
Christmas Lights
A simple but very effective Christmas card using your little ones fingerprints.
Dish Brush Wreaths
A great activity that was lots of fun; always great to step away from the normal and create using the not so obvious. Good activity for developing focus, fine motor practise and an opportunity to talk about shape and just talk. A very satisfying activity.
Fork Painting
A great activity for focus as well as developing those fine motor skills. Simply dip the fork in and make the shape of the tree. I used finger prints to decorate my tree but you could use anything ; pompoms, sequins, Christmas sparkles. Could be an opportunity to talk about home and traditions and how families celebrate in different ways. As well as why Christmas trees are still green at Christmas time. Enjoy!
S'mashing' Rudolfs
Nothing like a potato masher to create lots of excitement and enthusiasm. My masher was square shaped, but a round one would give a lovely Rudolph face. Have fun!
Festive Snowman
Very quick and easy activity to set up for when you need to fill a moment. I used a piece of A4 paper, but you could use a paper plate or white card. For younger children, draw a line for them to cut along, older children may manage this free hand. Enjoy the time!
Christmas Hanging Shapes
Simple activity, with big rewards. My children loved making these. Exceelent for fine motor practice and a wonderful opportunity to e creative.
Snowman Christmas Card
A lovely card which involves lots of gluing and sticking and lots of fine motor practice.
Reindeer Fun
Simple set up: cardboard roll, two leaves, paint and something for Rudolf's eyes and nose. You could use twigs instead of leaves for the antlers, use what you have. Have fun! 🎄🎅🌟
Potato Print Snowman
to engage and lots of opportunities to develop those fine motor skills. Have fun! ⛄⛄⛄⛄
Christmas Tree Fork Painting
We love all these creative Christmas makes and here it's a great opportunity to have another go at fork painting. With baby cutlery, it works if you want to create a Christmas card. Be creative and enjoy! 🎄🍴🖌️🎨
Crafty Christmas Trees
My children always love this activity. Not only do they get to be creative with whatever is in the cupboard, they get to construct the tree and work out how to make it stand. Enjoy! 🎄🎄🎄
Pointilism Snowmen
I did Pointilism in the summer and this was an ideal time to revisit it. Different children, still a great hit. Not only great for improving fine motor skills it's an opportunity to be really creative and to really focus. We all found it extremely calming, therapeutic and a wonderful opportunity to talk as we painted. I would highly recommend this activity and would definitely do it again
Smashing Rudolph
Lots of excitement when the children saw the masher and the paint. And the children remained excited as they created their Rudolph faces. This could easily be adapted to make a Christmas card. A round masher would be a little better, but as always, I use what I have. Enjoy!
Pointilism Baubles
Very simple, but very effective. A wonderful activity which as well as being creative, is soothing and excellent for wellbeing.
Christmas Tree Threading
A lovely Christmassy fine motor activity.
Christmas Wreath
My children loved this idea; lots of gluing and sticking and an opportunity to mark make or practice their writing. Not about the end result, but the end results were beautiful!
Snow Dough
Snow Dough is a wonderful sensory experience, it feels and if made with baby oil, smells divine. Please note... baby oil is unsuitable for under 3s, who may put it in their mouth and it is dangerous if ingested. That said, this is wonderful for exploring through sensory investigation, new vocabulary, weighing and measuring and of course fine motor and a chance to be creative and imaginative.
Alternative Christmas Tree
Lots of fine motor practise in this activity; painting, cutting and threading. It's also a great activity to revisit shape. Always discuss the differences between 2D and 3D and always try to talk about the properties of shapes; corners, vertices, sides, faces and symmetry if you can.
That's not my Christmas Tree!
This was a great way of encouraging talk, developing vocabulary and for the children to be creative finding different materials. Indoor or out, a great activity for keeping the Christmas theme going. Have fun!
Festive Santas
Lovely little festive activity for an afternoon. Paint the toilet roll or cover in red felt, then simply add all the bits to make your Santa. Lots of fine motor practise as some of the construction can be fiddly, but we'll worth the effort. Enjoy!
Shredded Snowman
When you're tired of building snowmen why not come indoors and create your very own shredded paper snowman. Creativity is wonderful for wellbeing just like the great outdoors. If you don't have any shredded paper, scrunched up tissue paper or cotton wool works just as well. Wonderful snowy fun! ☃️☃️
Christmas Scavenger Hunt
A Scavenger Hunt, indoors or out, is always great fun. This festive one can be used for either, depending on where you are living. Have lots of fun and enjoy the season! 🎅🎄☃️
